Episode 25- In Conversation with Ishita Mili

Ishita Mili, Female in her 20's. Dark hair in a top knot. She is wearing a White patterned white shirt with a red sports bra underneath and black tights. She is wearing a red tikka, red lipstick and earrings.

Chai with Rai (Ep.25). In conversation with Ishita Mili where we sat and discussed the dance space in the U.S from a South Asian perspective and just as an Artist.

We discussed Ishita's view on the Indian Classical industry, her family and of course her company IMGE Dance. We dived deep into conversations about cultural appropriation, the joys and consequences of creating experimental work. The digital space and its progression, what that has done to the arts industry. Her vocabulary and voice as an artist.

Her works from performing at Lincoln Centre to Seattle International Dance Festival. We also discussed DDCON, a question I have been questioning myself -- that should South Asian dancers in the industry have a fundamental knowledge in our culture and our dances? And how we are often boxed as either Classical dancers or Bollywood dancers.

So much we dove into and we talked that I can barely cover. This was a long one but definitely a juicy episode.
